MUBS & NWN Collaborate with the ISF and the Ain Qenia & Beyond Association to Spread Electronic Blackmail Awareness in Dar Hasbaya
The Modern University for Business and Science (MUBS) and the National Wellness Network (NWN), in collaboration with the Lebanese Internal Security Forces’ (ISF) Cybercrimes Bureau and the Ain Qenia and Beyond association, hosted an awareness session on June 8, 2024, at Dar Hasbaya.
The event was part of the National Education Program (NEP) and was facilitated by Admissions Officer at MUBS Ms. Maysaloun Raidan, Psychotherapist and Psychoanalyst Dr. Dalal El Halabi, and Representative of the ISF Cybercrimes Bureau Captain Mr. Amer Salika. Each of them brought their unique expertise to the event, contributing to the awareness and understanding of cyber extortion.
The session aimed to raise awareness about the different types of cyber extortion, such as sexual, financial, and emotional extortion. It shed light on the psychological and social impacts of cyber extortion, highlighting how it affects victims psychologically and socially and how it can lead to isolation, anxiety, and even suicide in some cases.
The event also provided information and resources on how to deal with cases of cyber extortion, including possible legal actions and how to report these cases. It also aimed to enhance digital awareness skills among both young people and adults, emphasizing password security, verifying online sources, and avoiding providing personal information to strangers.
MUBS remains committed to such initiatives, believing that they play a crucial role in equipping the next generation with the knowledge and skills required to navigate the digital world responsibly and safely.
The event is aligned with MUBS’s commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goals).
