NWN Hosts Special Holiday Celebration for Seniors as Part of the TAKREEM Project
The National Wellness Network (NWN) hosted a festive holiday celebration on December 20, 2024, for senior citizens as part of its TAKREEM project for retirees, featuring distinguished Lebanese actor Mr. Talal Al Jurdi and music therapist Mrs. May Okaily.
The event, held at NWN's Semqanieh center, included a special cinema screening, interactive activities promoting intergenerational dialogue, and a musical therapy session followed by a celebratory brunch. During the celebration, Mrs. May Okaily was presented with a certificate of appreciation for her contribution to music therapy, while Mr. Al Jurdi received a special artistic tribute created by MUBS Graphic Design students.
The TAKREEM project, implemented by International Alert in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), operates under the agriculture and community empowerment initiative. The project receives financial support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Ms. Laura Ajab, MUMC Optometrist & Operations Manager, emphasized the initiative's significance: "The project has proven essential for retirees and elderly individuals seeking meaningful engagement. We've observed how it facilitates valuable networking opportunities and bridges generational gaps. Our goal is to expand this initiative to reach a broader community and strengthen connections between university students and retirees through networking and mentorship programs."
The celebration exemplifies NWN’s mission to maintain seniors' dignity within their communities while fostering meaningful intergenerational connections and ensuring their continued active participation in society.
This event affirms MUBS’s commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically, SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goals).
